Backgrounders on the Bible through Biblical Archaeology

1058-Ramat Rachel

Ramat Rachel, located at a strategic high ground between Jerusalem and Bethlehem, is once again being excavated. There’s a story in the latest BIBLICAL ARCHAEOLOGY REVIEW, but the latest news is right off the pages of the Jerusalem Post. In fact, the very latest story was not even out when we recorded this program.

It seems quite likely this was a royal getaway for the Kings of Judah, who may have felt cramped in the tight confines of Jerusalem (in the palace being excavated by Eilat Mazar, discussed below). But there’s much more to be excavated at this location.

We also discussed on this program a new traveling exhibit called From Abraham to Jesus.
Sometime in the next two and a half years it will be coming to a city near you, if you live in the U.S. A total of 22 cities will be hosting this traveling exhibit.
