Backgrounders on the Bible through Biblical Archaeology

1127 – The Oldest Arched Gate in the World

The headline on the story we discuss to start this week’s program is “The Oldest Arched Gate in the World.” It’s about the mudbrick gate at Ashkelon, which dates to about 1850 B.C., the Canaanite period, before the Philistines arrived. However, the Ashkelon Gate is not the only Bronze Age Mudbrick Arched Gate in Israel. There’s also a gate at Tel Dan which is just about as old, maybe older.

On the second half of the program we discuss plans to create an archaeological park at Tiberias, on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee.
