#1302 Gezer Update 2011

Gezer High Place Stones

Gezer High Place Stones

Gezer, an Old Testament site, is an important archaeological benchmark. Excavations all over Israel are connected to Gezer, the work that has gone on there has uncovered important discoveries. But some issues are still unresolved, in particular related to the “Solomonic Gate.”

A new excavation directed by Sam Wolff and Steve Ortiz started several years ago. Sam is with the Israel Antiquities Authority and Steve is with Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. Then the summer before last an additional excavation began, into the Gezer water system. It’s directed by Dan Warner, of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and Tsvika Tsuk of the Israel Nature and Parks Authority.

So we’re covering all that and more this week (including the monolithic stones from the Gezer high place – pictured).
