“Happy Christmas” in the words of this week’s guest, Matthew Kalman. Matthew returns to The Book & The Spade to discuss his latest news scoop, the return of Frankincense in Israel. We talked to Matthew about his interview with Dr. Elaine Soloway, of the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies. She is the botanist who we have discussed several times in recent years for her work in nurturing a 2,000-year old date seed to grow.

The date palm tree is now seven years old. But Dr. Soloway has a new project, the first frankincense tree to grow in Israel in 1,500 years. Not exactly Biblical Archaeology, but she is digging in the dirt to recover ancient objects, so I say close enough.
