There have been huge changes in the technology used in archaeology over the 30 years that The Book & The Spade radio program has been on the air. Occasionally we feature some of the innovations to give our listeners some idea of the kind of tools that are now available to archaeologists.

This interview with Michele Stillinger, of the University of Minnesota’s Institute of Rock Magnetism, focuses on how the earth’s magnetic field has been employed to give archaeologists a new dating tool that can be more accurate than the typical tool of ceramic chronology.
