The 2013 Near East Archaeological Society annual meeting in Baltimore included a tribute to Reuben Bullard, a key member of NEAS, who died in 2004. In 2002 we interviewed Reuben Bullard on The Book & The Spade and learned of the key role he played in helping Biblical Archaeology achieve a more scientific focus.

Reuben Bullard was the first geologist to become a member of an excavation team in Israel, when he joined the Gezer excavations in 1966. He continued with that excavation through 1973 but participated in many other archaeological excavations, including the excavation at Abila, which we discussed in our last program.
