1514 Gary Burge – Roman Centurions
We’re replaying last year’s interview with Gary Burge based on his book, A Week in the Life of a Roman Centurion (InterVarsity Press) because there’s a new movie out about Roman soldiers. The movie is Risen, but it could easily be called, A Week in the Life of a Roman Tribune.
The movie has been getting pretty good reviews. It tells the story of how Roman authorities might have investigated the death of Jesus of Nazareth after his body mysteriously disappeared from a tomb that had been guarded by Roman soldiers.
Our conversation included a discussion of the Roman outpost known as Dura Europus, on the Euphrates River. Candida Moss, a professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at Notre Dame also referenced Dura Europus in an article the other day on baptism.
