1870 Anson Rainey – The House of David Inscription in Context

Anson Rainey

Probably the most important biblical archaeology discovery in the 40-year history of The Book & The Spade program. Why? Three years after its discovery, my 1996 conversation with Anson Rainey explains how the House of David Inscription from Tel Dan fits into the biblical narrative.

It’s actually not much of a conversation. It’s more like having a seat in the front row for a master-class with one of the most distinguished archaeologists and Bible scholars of the 20th century.

Anson Rainey was professor emeritus of ancient Near Eastern cultures and Semitic linguistics at Tel Aviv University when he passed away in February of 2011. He had a wide ranging career and is best known for his work on the Amarna tablets.
